Marketing

What’s a lesson you’ve learned recently that shifted your perspective?

The quantum leap for me in marketing my books, was the realisation that nobody will just casually wander into my website and buy a book. I have to go out and digitally shout it like a street vendor. Remember when the markets used to resound to the shouts of all sorts of colourful characters ? Well nothings changed, we’ve still got to do that. The shiniest, loudest, most colourful stall will make the sales. The most prominent site and position will sell the goods. Nothing has changed. We’ve got to sell it. People have to know. Very few punters will arrive by accident—they have to attracted, won over, and closed. End of. And every day you have to start again. Until the Nirvana of brand awareness. Hoover is my favourite, the manufacturer has entered the English language. His brand is the adjective we use in England to vacuum our carpets.

So keep marketing—it works, be patient and consistent. Good luck!
