Crazy headgear!

Would you be seen dead in this?

800 years ago this was as cool as a baseball cap. Not only was it a fashionable brown colour, it protected the struggling pilgrim from sun, rain and bird droppings.

Although there were many types of headgear, this one was by far the most popular. The brim and semi waterproof quality was sought after. My own pilgrim hat was similar to this, I still have it too. After a few weeks of wear it developed remarkable anti theft properties—stinking of sweat, beer and B.O. Nobody would go near it.

The badge of the pilgrim, the scallop shell often adorned the more fashionable wearers hats, and still is to this day.
