Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?
This is my playtime! If I’m not writing then this is what I do to earn a crust. That’s me on the left on sax. Play—literally, that’s why it’s so hard to make a living as a musician. Everyone thinks we do it for the love of it. We play, so it can’t be work. so why pay us?
In Spanish, you don’t play an instrument, you touch it, a much better description. That always makes me smile, I imagine carefully extending a finger to poke my saxophone, as it growls back at me, daring me to touch it!
Is it wrong to make a living doing something you love? Of course not, it just makes some people jealous, stuck in jobs they hate, but can’t get away from.
After falling in the French Alps and nearly killing myself, I decided never to do anything I didn’t want to again. Life is too short to spend it moaning about what you’d like to do.
So every day is playtime for me, I enjoy it and certainly make the most of going out to play!
A dog, a pen and a saxophone. Your holy trinity ✨️
Yes, for sure!
