Yucky morning person

Are you more of a night or morning person?

I’m one of those awful morning people. I jump out of bed in the morning with a song in my heart, instantly ready for action. I’m reviled by others staggering about in their dressing gowns clutching a coffee. Glass of water, grab the dog’s lead and we’re gone!

My best work is done in the morning, from sunrise to its zenith, and then it’s a gentle decline through the afternoon and bed.

In the summer I’m up insanely early, 4.30 at the earliest, chasing the sunrise, a day’s work done before breakfast. Winter sees me rising later, but again, I’m still at my best in the morning, but yawning by 9pm.

I get the winter blues, SAD we call it here, Seasonal Affective Disorder. I hate the short days. If I could hibernate like a bear I would do. I’d roll up in my duvet and sleep through the misery of winter.

I’m in tune with the earth’s cycles, from the Autumn Equinox to the Winter Solstice is my worst time. Once December 21st or thereabouts is celebrated I’m back to racing the sun out of bed, driving everyone nuts with my morning antics.

Am I normal? Who knows? Morning people are out and about with their cheery hellos and whistling happy tunes. The nighthawks are stumbling about scratching their nether regions and cursing everyone and everything.

If you go clubbing you will find the morning people propping the bar up or asleep in the toilets, one drink and they’re fast asleep in Lala Land. The nighthawks can bop away till even the owls are looking pointedly at their watches.

I’m a great believer in the medieval practice of first sleep and second sleep too. I invariably write this blog in the strange world between sleeps in the small hours. It’s a time when great ideas can be caught napping. The toothache chapter in Camino is one such idea—caught unawares in the wee small hours, between sleep and awakening.

We are all different thank goodness. I would never revile a nighthawk, even if they have got it wrong. Some of us are Milkmen and Posties, others are Taxi Drivers and Barmen. The world needs us all!

If my link works now I’ll be grateful to get any sort of reply. With FB still down for me and this too, it’s a wonder I’ve had any sales at all! I hope it’s ok now.

  1. If I go back to a ‘like’ you made on my post and click your name it goes to that private page- but I think that is because it’s now ‘ in the past’. If tomorrow you Like a post of mine and I click your name I am sure it will be fine…..
