What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
Many years ago, I had the privilege of staying a week or so with the monks on Caldy Island, off the South Wales coast.
They’ve been there since around the 5th Century, living a monastic life,
I joined in their day to day work and routine of worship. As a guest I had a lot of spare time, and wandered the Island exploring. One day I happened upon their graveyard, as even monks pass on eventually. One of the things that stopped me in my tracks was that 70 was the age at which these devout guys died. Not all of them, but a good majority. Why 70? Well somewhere in the Old Testament bible, the lifespan of a man was put at three score and ten years. It seemed these Cistercian Monks took this literally.

So here I am at three score and ten years myself, but have no doubt that I am good for a few more miles yet. I’m active and my brain is still working…..sort of. As long as I’m not suffering in some way, I’m happy to keep ignoring Old Testament advice and keep going a bit longer.
So you’re stuck with my insane blogs for a while yet, some good, some bad and some that will curl your toes. H
ave a read of my fictional medieval romp, where one monk takes on the Church and wins!
