Walking please! (Again)

What are your favorite physical activities or exercises?

Oh dear, at the risk of repeating myself this year, I love walking! Some walk the dog, walk to the shops—me? I go Walking Towards Myself. Not an easy task, a bit like cleaning your ear with your elbow.

While I was walking towards myself, I met an old man of 70, who had set off to go to a wedding in Bristol UK, and ended up walking the Camino Frances. It takes all types, so be careful if you’re only going out for a loaf of bread….

I’ve already extolled the virtues of walking to you this year, so I won’t bore you again. Either I convinced you last time (unlikely) or you’re a hopeless Couch Potato!🥔

Here’s a family photograph then. Notice any resemblance?

When I visited family in Texas, I was told that nobody walks anywhere, so I went to find out for myself. After ten minutes a police car drove past and the police officer asked me if I was ok. Nobody walks in Texas apparently; prove me wrong please, all those wasted pairs of legs!

Do children still walk to school? A few do, I’ve nearly run them over in the morning, but most have lost the ability it seems. As a youngster I had a half mile walk that took me past an abattoir to catch a bus for the school 15 miles away. I don’t eat much meat these days, believe me.

Walking is something almost unique to Homo Sapiens, most creatures blessed with four appendages use all four to get around. It’s certainly more stable. After one beer too many it used to be my go-to for safe movement. These days the nearest I go to a beer is a glance up poison alley in the supermarket.

So walking is good for you, blah, blah, it will help you live longer—I’m living proof of this. I’m still here boring the socks off you about how therapeutic and healthy it is.

So look down past your belly button and other bits and pieces at those two odd things attached to your bum—Your legs—get using them! X
