Eat less meat!

What are your feelings about eating meat?

When I was younger, I never questioned what I ate, or why. I never gave a thought to how that meat was sourced.

Still eat meat, but only occasionally now. There are several reasons for why that is. The foremost is how the animal is reared and then killed.

No matter what our beliefs or views on animal husbandry, every creature has a right to live the life it was given. If it is unfortunate enough to be one reared for the table, it should be despatched humanely and with compassion.

I’ve reared my own goats, fowl and rabbits, and a time comes in their life when they must be killed. I have done so personally, and with compassion and a thanks to the poor creature before the killing blow.

My stance on the slaughter of animals for their meat is now this: If you really feel the need to eat meat, then you should be prepared to rear the animal with care and then kill it humanely yourself. If you can’t do that, then you don’t deserve to eat it.

So these days I eat very little meat, the occasional chicken which I rear myself and sometimes red meat, but very little indeed.

I don’t think we need meat as a source of protein at all, there are plenty of other things will give us a balanced diet.

So to sum up this serious topic today, my feelings are that yes, eat meat if you must, for whatever reason. Be prepared however, to rear it then kill it yourself. That will change your perspective on standing at the meat counter in the store for sure.
